The first smartwatches appeared in the 20th century. Typing notes and remote access to a computer were already part of the functionality of the watch in the 80s. Gradually, manufacturers added functionality and improved models. The purpose of such watches has always been the same - the usefulness of use. Already today, smartwatches have become an integral part of the day, lifestyle and lifestyle of users.

How smart watches work?

Each model of modern watches has WI-FI, Bluetooth and GPS technologies. External or built-in sensors allow the collection of information that allows data to appear on the watch display.

The smart watch is synchronized with the phone using a mobile application. There are also models with a built-in SIM card slot that work as an independent device, being able to answer calls, messages, and also monitor other notifications. The assortment of the Ukrainian brand Gelius includes children's smart watches, which have such a slot and many useful functions.

Main functions of Smart Watch

The functionality of all smartwatches is similar to each other, since their production takes into account the basic needs and wishes of users.

Main functions in smartwatches:

  • synchronization with your phone via a mobile application, in which you can configure all the necessary notes for monitoring activity and alerts;
  • notifications about incoming calls (the ability to reset / receive a call), messages, notifications from instant messengers and social networks;
  • control of physical activity and the choice of various modes of sports activities, monitoring the quality of sleep, steps, pulse, counting calories burned and the level of medical indicators, such as measuring blood pressure and oxygen levels;
  • location determination, thanks to the built-in GPS sensor and synchronization of the watch with a smartphone, which also allows you to track the route or runs on the map in the application, see the geolocation coordinates in an unfamiliar area, and see the location of the child, if it is a children's smart watch;
  • music player control with the ability to switch songs and adjust the volume;
  • alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, calculator, movement and warm-up reminders, which can be set in the mobile application, as well as on the watch screen itself.

Additional smartwatch functions

Protection against moisture and dust. There are several levels of protection. Some of the highest levels allow you to submerge in water to a depth of 3 meters and take a shower.

  • Good level of autonomy - some models can work without recharging from 24 hours to 3 weeks.
  • Signal to remove the watch.
  • Callback is a function that allows parents to be aware of everything that is happening around.
  • SOS signal in children's watches. In an emergency, the child can use this button to notify parents.

How to connect a smart watch to a phone?

  1. In order for the watch to correctly connect to the smartphone and not be discharged during the step-by-step setup, you need to charge it to a full charge of 100%, and then follow the instructions.
  2. If this is a children's watch with a sim-card, then it must be activated by replenishing the account at the selected tariff, while disabling the pin-code lock (for the convenience of working with the device).
  3. The location of the SIM card slot itself differs on watch models, since manufacturers have their own design features. Most often, the card slot is located on the side of the case or under the battery. Just the last option can be called frequent in children's smartwatch models.
    If the card cannot be connected and the watch does not recognize it, you just need to move it to your smartphone and carry out the initial setup. If this did not work, it’s worth pulling out the SIM card again and putting it back in: most likely, it didn’t fit tightly enough into the slot.
  4. Next, it remains to install the sim card in the slot located in the watch.
  5. After installing the application, edit the necessary settings, perform the obligatory synchronization of the smartphone with the watch via Bluetooth and download a set of necessary software.

Date and time setting is mostly automatic. If the information has not been pulled up, then you need to try: open the settings menu, go to the "date / time" section, select the relevant information.

How the basic functions of a smartwatch work?

  1. Pairing a smart watch with a smartphone is mandatory and necessary. Through automatic connection via WI-FI, the user will connect to the network as soon as the device is within its range. This option drains the battery faster than Bluetooth.
    If the watch is connected to the phone, then synchronization occurs within 10 meters, which allows you to receive notifications on the screen.
    All device models with Bluetooth version from 4.0 can successfully pair with IOS and Android operating system.
  2. In modern smart watches, where there are functions of medical indicators, the necessary sensors are installed that read and measure the pulse, pressure, oxygen level in the blood.
    No device can provide accurate measurement values, therefore the manufacturers of such devices warn users about this and indicate that only medical equipment can provide a guarantee of accuracy..
  3. The smart watch is equipped with sleep monitoring technology, which allows you to track sleep phases. With the help of sophisticated algorithms, the phases of deep and slow sleep are determined. Micro-sensing sensors record all sounds during a night's rest. More sounds are played during the active phase. And all information is recorded and stored in the mobile application.
  4. The pedometer in smart watches works with accelerometers - sensors built into the device that convert steps into an electronic signal and send it to the processor. With the help of algorithms, the number of steps, the tone of the pulse and the speed of movement are counted.

Four Tips for Choosing a Smart Watch

When choosing a smartwatch, you should pay attention to the most basic criteria for personal needs and purposes of use, given that this gadget will be a very useful assistant for you.

The four most important factors to look for when choosing a smart device:

  • design of the device, material and design of the case;
  • interface, operating system;
  • functionality and performance of smart watches, autonomy;
  • financial budget.

Each of the points suggested is important when buying a smart gadget.

Tip #1

Design plays a paramount role, since it is simply obliged to please the user with its style, precisely because the appearance immediately catches the eye. Most smartwatches have rectangular and round cases.

The main materials used in production are metal, plastic, in expensive models - ceramics.

Metal (steel) is a material that is more durable in operation, reliable when hitting and falling.

Plastic, in turn, is lighter and does not feel on the hand. In expensive models, the screen is made of sapphire or mineral glass. The coating of this format is very resistant to damage and deep scratches.

The strap materials are different, and in most models the manufacturer makes them removable:

  • leather, suede;
  • silicone of a wide variety of colors;
  • made of stainless steel.

Devices from the Gelius brand have the ability to change dials in a special mobile application. The backlight of the screen turns on only when in use - in active mode, which significantly reduces the level of battery consumption.

The watch screen is color and monochrome. Color reproduction and display size play an important role when choosing a smartwatch. Well, the most high-quality matrix is considered to be an AMOLED and liquid crystal display, in which colors, saturation and depth of colors are expressed..

Tip #2

The operating system that is installed in the smartwatch is of three types:

  • Wear OC (Android) - found in many models from different brands. This system in smartwatches is compatible with Android, with a familiar interface and optimization for the shape of the dial (square or round).
  • Tizen Android Wear is a system that is also used in many well-known watch models.
  • WatchOS (Apple Watch) - based on this filling, the watch can only work with an iPhone.

All modern models of smart watches practically do not use buttons in their designs, because everyone is convinced that the touch screen is much more convenient and practical to use. Therefore, we can safely say that the sensor is actively replacing button formats not only in mobile phones, but also in smartwatches.

Tip #3

The functionality of the watch plays a key role in the use of a smart device, since the meaning of buying this accessory depends on this factor. Activity readings in some models are not 100% correct, unlike professional trackers. Therefore, if you are striving for clear indications of activity, pay attention to this, as well as to the mobile application, in which all information will be pulled up and recorded.

The autonomy of the built-in battery is also an important criterion when buying a watch. Smart watch models can work from a day (24 hours) to several weeks. It depends on the filling directly and the various chips inside that drain the battery.

Chargers are different for specific models of smart watches; in modern models, engineers prefer magnetic and specialized cables that come with the gadget.

Tip #4

The price of a smartwatch varies to suit every buyer's budget. You can find models from the lowest prices to quite high ones. Budget devices are highly justified in quality and performance. The Ukrainian brand Gelius was able to combine the wishes of users into one whole: the price is available for everyone who wants to buy high-quality and stylish gadgets that can surprise not only with a beautiful design, but also with functionality, capabilities and choice.
